Why Aren't They in Schism?

I think this article was among those I directed you folks to at AMDG yesterday. This about a 4 year vigil at a Boston archdiocese church that remains open because of a constant vigil that the laity keep. A caption to a photo on the left, in which we see a middle-aged woman giving what appears to be communion to a man, has a caption saying that women have "assumed leadership roles and distribute communion." What exactly is going on? Where are the hosts coming from? Have they been consecrated by Catholic priests? Are the laity simulating a Mass without a priest present? The church building is one of those ugly plain wooden arks. No architectural loss. Defintiely a good pick for demolition.

We also need to work on educating the laity and public about Catholic architectural terminology. The "sanctuary" is the holy area in which the Blessed Sacrament and altar are located. Laity entered this area for the first time in the ordinary form Mass. Laity are up there just a bit too much anymore. The body of the Church where the faithful sit is called the "nave."
